This month at HCS, the office stampede was on to be the first to get our hands on and install the new Windows 7. Microsoft had lots to live up to with this new operating system. Promises of “this was built around your feedback”, “we’ll make everyday tasks faster…....and easier!” were bandied about. But we were having none of it! This launch, when compared to the Vista launch was very low key and to be frank, we were worried. Would Microsoft 7 really be any different? The real proof is in the pudding…. and so, we sat down to tuck in
Here is a quick summary of the features of Windows 7:
• Installation – depending on your current system, super quick! Current Vista users, for example, will hardly have time to make a cup of tea.
• Speed, speed, speed – zoom around applications, shut down, boot up, return from hibernation mode all with lightning speed.
• Aero Shake – simply cool! Too many windows open? Grab the one you want with the mouse and give it a shake. Hey presto – all the others disappear!
• Pin function – pin programs to the taskbar - easy as tacking notes to a bulletin board.
• Snap function - compare two open windows using the snap function, which neatly fits them side by side.
• Live taskbar - point to a taskbar icon to see actual images of all of your open files or programs. Then, move your mouse over the image to preview the window full-screen. Click on the full screen image, and you can start working with it immediately. You can even close windows from the thumbnail previews—a big time saver.
• Fewer interruptions – no more traditional nag screen. Instead a discreet Action Centre icon appears on your screen. You can then deal with it, in your own sweet time, thank you very much.
• Searching – finally a search function that is much more relevant and easy to understand! It uses libraries to show all contents of a particular type, like photos, in one spot. About time too we say!
• Device Management – use a single devices and printer screen to connect, manage and use whatever printers, phones and other devices you have on hand
• View Available Network (VAN) - You always have one-click access to available networks, regardless of whether those networks are based on Wi-Fi, mobile broadband, dial-up, or your corporate VPN.
The verdict – We love it! Windows 7 lives up to all expectations and more. Upgrade today and make your working day easier (and a lot more fun!) Call Helena now on (051) 595 200
